News and notes: Spring Training week 2
Although it’s still early in March, we’ve begun to see the ramp up as big league pitchers and hitters are logging more innings and at bats. It’s truly an exciting time of the year as a baseball fan and I hope you’re having as much fun as I am
Ha-Seong Kim and the Rays in agreement on a two year deal
Another free agent comes off the board as the Tampa Bay Rays signed Ha-Seong Kim to a two year deal worth $29 million with an opt out following the 2025 season
Jurickson Profar and the Atlanta Braves agree to a three year deal
The Atlanta Braves have surprisingly been one of the quieter contenders this offseason. Aside from a contract extension for Reynaldo Lopez and a few minor league contracts, the Braves have spent minimally thus far headed into 2025. That changed on Thursday afternoon after Jeff Passan reported that the Braves were in agreement on a three year deal worth $42 million
What will Anthony Santander provide for the Toronto Blue Jays?
Fortunately for Toronto, they took a step in the right direction on Monday by signing Anthony Santander, switch-hitting slugger and now former Baltimore Oriole. The deal is for five years and is worth $92.5 million which includes an opt-out following the 2027 season and a club option following the 2029 season
Tanner Scott and the Dodgers in agreement on a four year contract
Scott is entering his age 31 season and is coming off of two very solid campaigns of which he spent with both the Marlins and Padres.
Jeff Hoffman is the newest member of the Blue Jays bullpen
The 2024-25 MLB offseason continues to press on as we approach the one month countdown until Spring Training. There’s still some notable names left on the board, and one found a new home - or I should say is returning home - on Friday night. Right handed relief pitcher Jeff Hoffman and the Toronto Blue Jays came to an agreement on a three year contract worth $33M which will take him through his age 34 season
Brent Rooker and the Athletics in agreement on a 5 year contract extension
Although the future in front of them is uncertain at the moment, the Athletics have sneakily had one of the better offseasons in baseball. While the additions of Jeffrey Springs and Luis Severino help to bring some stability to the starting rotation in hopes of supporting an offense that was on the rise in 2024, the A’s may have pulled off the steal of the offseason by inking slugger Brent Rooker to a five year contract extension worth $60M
A New Year’s Resolution for every National League Team
Did somebody say 2025? Rather than making some New Year’s resolutions for myself, out of the kindness of my heart I have instead decided to bring back this mini-series I did last year and come up with one for every MLB team so that they can all have the best 2025 possible
A New Year’s Resolution for every American League Team
Did somebody say 2025? Rather than making some New Year’s resolutions for myself, out of the kindness of my heart I have instead decided to bring back this mini-series I did last year and come up with one for every MLB team so that they can all have the best 2025 possible.
