Travis Bazzana, the first overall pick in the 2024 draft, was regarded as the best overall hitter in the 2024 draft class. His combination of hit and power paired with his ability to hit right handed and left handed pitchers gives him what is probably the highest ceiling for any collegiate bat coming out of the class. He put up a decent stat line in his first taste of pro ball where he immediately joined High-A Lake County. His power didn’t quite show as he posted just a .396 SLG and a .158 ISO, but still showed an ability to get on base with a 13.9 BB% and a .369 OBP. He got the ball in the air at a 44.3% rate and pulled the ball at a 47.9% rate, both of which may be good omens for Bazzana if he continues to make consistent, hard contact. He played all 27 of his games at second base which seems to be his defensive home for the long-term. Depending on his performance in spring training, he’ll likely start 2025 at either High-A or Double-A Akron, but could end up in Cleveland before the end of the year if his bat fully comes around on pro pitching.
