Rhett Lowder, my second ranked Cincinnati Red behind Chase Burns, has a leg up on a lot of prospects heading into 2025 as he got a good amount of time under his belt at the big league level last year. Lower made six starts while logging 30.2 innings, and looked really good in the process, posting a 1.17 ERA and a 3.10 FIP. He did see a dip in strikeouts and an uptick in walks during his time with the Reds, so we’ll have to wait and see how sustainable that success will be in 2025. There isn’t anything too flashy about Lowder as a pitcher. He has three above-average pitches along with elite command that makes his offerings work. In the minors, he only walked 5.4% of hitters over 108.2 innings. He has the command to make it as a starter in this league, so 2025 will be about adjusting to a big league workload as well as making his arsenal work in a very hitter-friendly ballpark in Cincinnati. I have already put it out there that Lowder is a great choice as a dark horse candidate for National League Rookie of the Year.
