Owen Caissie is one of four Chicago Cubs prospects featured on my top 50 following a solid 2024 campaign and a steady climb through Chicago’s system. Cassie was drafted by the Padres, but ended up with Chicago through the Yu Darvish trade that sent Darvish over to San Diego. In over 1700 minor league plate appearances, Caissie has a career slash line of .278/.383/.470, with 59 home runs and a 129 wRC+. Caissie’s best performance thus far came in 2023 at Double-A Knoxville where he hit 22 home runs to the tune of a .918 OPS over 528 plate appearances. Caissie is known for his power from the left side of the plate and his strong arm out in right field where it is likely he will play long term. Caissie struggles with striking out as most hitters with his power profile do, but has also walked at least 11.5% of the time at each of his stops in the minors. The hit tool is still a work in progress, but if it clicks for Caissie, it is believed he can be a 30 home run threat at the big league level.
