In a loaded Seattle Mariners farm system, Lazaro Montes comes in ranked third at just the age of 20. In 2024, his age 19 season, he hit 21 home runs which ranked second among Mariners minor league hitters 25 years old or younger. Montes possesses some of the best raw power from the left side of the plate in the minor leagues. At the age of 17, he managed to hit 10 home runs over just 223 plate appearances at the Dominican Summer League. Up until his stint at High-A Everett during the second half of 2024, Montes had not posted a slugging percentage lower than .520 at any stop of the minors. While he does strike out at an above-average rate (as one with his type of power usually does), Montes still draws walks at a well above-average rate. He has a 15.7 career BB% along with a 0.60 BB/K which bodes well for a player with his type of power. Montes doesn’t provide a whole lot elsewhere as he’s not a great runner, but does enough to stick in a corner outfield spot. His overall profile is very similar to fellow Cuban outfielder, Yordan Alvarez.
