Traded over to Chicago from the Red Sox in the Garrett Crochet deal this past winter, Kyle Teel enters the White Sox system as their top ranked catching prospect, getting the edge over Edgar Quero. Teel tore up multiple levels of the minors following the 2023 draft where he was selected 14th overall out of Virginia. In 114 plate appearances across the complex league, High-A Greenville and Double-A Portland, Teel posted a slash line of .363/.482/.495 with a 173 wRC+. He opened his first full pro season at Double-A where he logged a 145 wRC+ and 11 home runs over 382 plate appearances. He was promoted to Triple-A Worcester for a short stint before the end of the season where struggled. It’s safe to say he’ll open the season in Triple-A to fine tune his game before getting call to the show sometime in 2025. The position battle between Teel and Edgar Quero for future franchise catcher will certainly be an interesting one. Teel does have the slight edge when it comes to defense behind the plate.
