Jacob Wilson, the Athletics top prospect, undoubtedly has the best hit tool among any group of prospects. Wilson is allergic to whiffs and has the ability to put any type of pitch in play. During his cup of coffee at the big league level in 2024, Wilson only struck out 9.7% of the time compared to the league average of 22.6%. The question surrounding Wilson is whether or not he will be able to hit for enough power. That is what will be the difference between Wilson being a league average or an above average bat at the big league level. He never hit more than 10 home runs at any stop on his way to Oakland but also didn’t log more than 120 plate appearances at any level either. His seven home runs in the minors in 2024 stretched out over a 162 game season comes out to 21 home runs, which seemingly will be his ceiling with the A’s. If he doesn’t manage to hit for power, he does provide in other departments. Wilson is an average to an above-average defensive shortstop and appears to be able to stick there long term.
