Edgar Quero got his start in pro ball with the Los Angeles Angels in 2021 after signing internationally out of Cuba, but was traded to the White Sox in the Lucas Giolito deal in 2023. Since entering pro ball at the age of 18, Quero has been nothing short of consistent. He has made it as high as Triple-A Charlotte and has not posted an OBP lower than .360 or a SLG lower than .460 at any of his stops thus far. 2024 was the year he started to catch some steam in the prospect space. Among all minor league catchers with at least 400 plate appearances, Quero ranked within the top ten in AVG, OPS, wOBA, and wRC+. His raw power numbers aren’t going to jump off the page, but he really makes his offensive game work through limiting strikeouts and hitting the ball to all fields from both sides of the plate, as well as drawing a lot of walks. Defensively, Quero is still a work in progress, but it appears as if his bat should provide enough if his defense remains average to below average. It will be interesting to see where he lands in Chicago’s future plans as he will be battling with fellow top catching prospect, Kyle Teel, for the future full-time catcher job.
