It was only a little more than a year from the time Dylan Crews was drafted until he made his Major League debut in D.C. where he had a decent showing in 31 games. Over 132 plate appearances, Crews posted a slash line of .218/.288/.353 with an 80 wRC+ but he did show some flashes of what fans can expect from him over the course of a full season. While his bat still needs to adjust to big league pitching, his 60-grade glove and 70-grade legs provided value from day one. In 273 innings in the outfield, Crews posted 4 DRS and 3 OAA, and also stole 12 bases. That is the type of production you can expect to get from the LSU product even when the bat is slumping. A good sign for the bat moving forward is that Crews handled the fastball well as he had 5.4 runs above average against the pitch. How a hitter handles velocity is typically the first thing I’m looking for when a prospect gets into a big league batter’s box. Crews is projected to be the starting right fielder on opening day in D.C. so he should graduate from this list pretty soon.
