Colson Montgomery comes into the 2025 season as the fourth highest ranked Chicago White Sox in what has become a pretty deep farm system. Montgomery rose through the minors at a fast pace following the 2021 draft, but ran into some injury issues in 2023, and then had his first down year statistically at Triple-A Charlotte in 2024. Despite battling injury in 2023, his numbers across the Complex League, High-A Winston Salem, and Double-A Birmingham gave White Sox fans a look into what he could be capable of at the big league level one day. Over 294 plate appearances, Montgomery posted a slash line of .287/.455/.484, good for a 155 wRC+ which ranked third among all Minor League shortstops. His performance in 2023 led a lot of people to believe he could be up with the big league team in 2024, but never really put it together at Triple-A. Montgomery made 45 plate appearances at the Arizona Fall League in October where he gained momentum that he hopes to leverage into a big 2025. He hit three home runs on his way to a 1.167 OPS.
