Cole Young comes in as my second highest ranked Seattle Mariner, but seems to be interchangeable with other guys in the system such as Colt Emerson, Lazaro Montes, and Harry Ford. Young is your typical hit over power shortstop that can swipe 20 to 30 bags in any given season (somewhere between Anthony Volpe and Trea Turner). Young spent the entirety of 2024 at Double-A Arkansas where he didn’t show a whole lot of pop, but managed a .369 OBP, 0.77 BB/K, and 23 steals. While his bat didn’t stand out in a big way despite a 119 wRC+, Young’s glove up the middle improved a lot, leading the Mariners to believe he can be an option at shortstop in the long term if he hits enough. There’s no reason why he can’t stick at second base either if need be. Young received a non-roster invite to spring training which will help the Mariners get a better look at how Young’s bat will fare against higher level arms.
